LaDonna Humphrey - Oasis of Northwest Arkansas prepares new office space to reach more women
A sober living community for women in Northwest Arkansas is getting a new space to help more people. It looks like a work in progress, but Oasis of Northwest Arkansas sees limitless potential for this space. “Really our idea is that you walk in through the door and everything that you need is right here and you don’t have to try and catch a ride. Most of these women don’t have transportation,” executive director LaDonna Humphrey said.
As of now, Oasis works completely out of its sober living homes for women. For the first time, it will have its own office space in this spot in Rogers. “The demand for services at Oasis of Northwest Arkansas is at an all-time high. We have over 215 women on our waiting list for transitional living at any given time,” LaDonna Humphrey said. The goal is a one-stop shop for women in recovery with all resources like case management, legal services, mental health services and more. Community partners like Speak Up Against Drugs are excited to jump on board.
“We’ve had a lot of mutual clients, so it seems like a natural opportunity for us to join forces for this location,” Speak Up Against Drugs Executive Director Gina Allgaier said. Attorney and former drug court prosecutor Ryan Renauro says resources like this can make a huge difference. “To live a life that you have wanted for a long time and to reunify with a lot of the family members that you have burnt bridges with, we talk about why are we going to do this.
Those are the clients that have the best success,” Renauro said. This new space will help create more success stories, making it easier for women facing a challenging situation. “Take them from giving them to critical resources and resources that are needed for their day to day life and also be able to help them improve the whole person, their overall well-being and their families.
That’s really how we make generational change,” Allgaier said. Oasis of Northwest Arkansas could use some help from volunteers putting the final touches on the new space. To contact the organization, click here.
